Cancer retreat free to island residents
People dealing with a cancer diagnosis are invited to attend a special group retreat of hope and empowerment from Dec. 3 to 7 at Kokolulu Farm Cancer Retreats in Hawi. The program is free to Hawaii Island residents.

Community Thanksgiving dinner in Kealakekua
The Christ Church Ohana in Kealakekua invites friends, family and community members to share a free turkey dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Queen Emma Community Center. The meal includes dressing, side dishes and pumpkin pie.

Ocean View Christmas party gift drive has begun
The Ocean View Community Association’s annual keiki Christmas gift drive is under way. Those interested in helping may choose a star from trees placed in area businesses, purchase a gift, then deliver the unwrapped item to a participating business or the community center. Donations help provide keiki with a fun-filled day of games, crafts and a visit from Santa.
Libraries closed Thanksgiving Day
Hawaii’s public libraries will be closed Thursday, in observance of Thanksgiving.

Holiday craft fair Friday, Saturday
The 30th annual Joann Williams Christmas Treasures Art, Gift and Craft Fair is slated from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona.
The event, to be held in the Kamakahonu Ballroom and parking lot area, features vendors from across the state offering items for holiday shoppers. Crafts and gifts include jams and jellies, jewelry, ukulele, ornaments, dolls, baked goods, candles, clothing and more. A silent auction is also planned.
Admission is free. Door prizes from each vendor will be given away during the event.

HSTA sells ornaments to ‘Thank-a-Teacher’
The Hawaii State Teachers Association is holding Thank-a-Teacher events to celebrate American Education Week. Students and the community may send thank-you cards to teachers, counselors and librarians.
The HSTA Kona Chapter will sell apple ornaments with teachers’ names on them at a table at the Joann Williams Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Proceeds will benefit the Food Basket.
